Oppo Find X9 Ultra Review: The Camera Phone That Changes the Game
For the first time, Oppo's most formidable camera phone goes global — and after spending time with it, the wait was absolutely worth it

For years, Oppo's top-tier Find X Ultra phones were a well-kept secret. Launched exclusively in China, they routinely delivered camera systems that matched or beat the best Samsung and Apple could offer — and almost nobody outside Asia could buy one. The Find X9 Ultra changes that. For the first time in the history of the series, Oppo's flagship is going global. And after spending time with it, the wait was absolutely worth it.
This is not just one of the best phones of 2026. It might be the best camera phone ever made.
A Historic Launch
The Find X9 Ultra is the first Ultra-tier phone in Oppo's lineup to go on sale outside of China. Every previous model — including the highly regarded Find X8 Ultra from 2025 — was limited to the Chinese market. The X9 Ultra changes that, with Oppo taking it to the UK, Europe, India, and most global markets from May 2026.
For anyone who has been watching Oppo's imaging advances from the sidelines, this is genuinely significant news. The brand has been quietly building one of the most formidable camera systems in the smartphone industry, and now the rest of the world finally gets to experience it firsthand.
Design: Built to Look Like a Camera
Oppo is not subtle about what the Find X9 Ultra is for. The phone is marketed not as an upgrade, but as "your next camera." One look at it and you understand why.
The Find X9 Ultra comes in two colorways — Canyon Orange and Tundra Umber — both inspired by the Hasselblad X2D 100C Earth Explorer Edition camera. The Tundra variant features a faux leather back with a splash of orange on the Quick Button, echoing the shutter button of the X2D. It is one of the most striking smartphone designs of the year, and it looks nothing like a typical glass slab.

The large camera module at the rear presents an air of seriousness, as it should. At 235 grams and 8.7mm thick, this is not a phone you will forget you are holding — but in hand, the faux leather back makes it comfortable and grippy in a way that most glass phones are not.

The Display
The Find X9 Ultra features a 6.82-inch LTPO AMOLED display at 3168 × 1440 resolution with a 144Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 3600 nits. That brightness figure is remarkable — and practically useful. If you have ever tried to frame a shot in bright sunlight on a phone with a dim display, you know the frustration. At 3600 nits, the Find X9 Ultra's screen is visible even in direct sunlight, which matters enormously for a phone marketed at photographers.
The Cameras: Borderline Absurd
This is where the Find X9 Ultra separates itself from everything else on the market. Oppo did not just upgrade the camera system — it rebuilt it from the ground up in partnership with Hasselblad.

There are five cameras on the rear of the Find X9 Ultra, every one of which was custom-developed with Hasselblad. The 200MP main sensor is the largest 200MP sensor ever put in a smartphone, with an f/1.5 aperture and a 23mm equivalent focal length. The 200MP 3× telephoto is, again, the largest telephoto sensor ever placed in a phone, with an f/2.2 aperture, a 70mm equivalent focal length, and a minimum focus distance of just 15cm.
The 50MP 10× telephoto is the first 10× optical zoom lens ever fitted to a smartphone. That lens deserves special attention. Oppo claims the Find X9 Ultra's second telephoto has 306% better light-gathering capabilities than the equivalent lens on the Galaxy S23 Ultra. Whether or not that number holds up in direct comparison, the optical reach it provides is genuinely impressive — a level of zoom versatility that no current Android flagship comes close to matching.
The fifth camera is a next-generation True Color Camera featuring a 24-channel spectral sensor, which now works for motion photos and video as well as stills. The front camera is a 50MP Samsung JN5 with autofocus.
On the video side, every camera on the Find X9 Ultra is capable of capturing 4K 60fps Dolby Vision footage. The two 200MP sensors also support 8K 30fps recording, which is unique to this phone.
In real-world use, photos routinely turn out looking good and provide the kind of flexibility to look even better with some editing afterward. The main and telephoto cameras deliver at a very high clip. The ultra-wide is the weakest link in the system — still excellent by mid-range standards, but less impressive relative to the other lenses — but that is a minor criticism of an otherwise extraordinary package.
“The cameras are the best a reviewer has ever tested on a smartphone. The software is excellent, and performance and battery life are similarly impressive.”
Performance
The Find X9 Ultra is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, built on a 3nm architecture, with configurations up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 1TB of UFS 4.1 storage. It is, by any measure, one of the most powerful processors available in a smartphone today.
Everyday performance is exactly what you would expect from that spec sheet — fast, smooth, and effortless across every task. Gaming, video editing, multitasking — nothing causes it to hesitate. The cooling system keeps thermals in check even under sustained load.
Battery Life
The Find X9 Ultra packs a 7,050mAh battery — a significant increase over its predecessor — with Oppo claiming up to 31 hours of YouTube playback on a single charge. Charging speeds are 100W wired and 50W wireless, both faster than competing flagships from Google and Samsung.

In practice, the X9 Ultra easily lasts a full day of heavy use. The 100W wired charging means a dead phone goes from zero to full in well under an hour, removing most of the anxiety around battery management.
Price and Availability
The Find X9 Ultra is available at retail from May 8, 2026. In the UK, it is priced at £1,449 for the 12GB/512GB model — exactly the same price as the 512GB Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra. Select markets will also offer a 16GB/1TB configuration.
Oppo has confirmed an India launch in May 2026, with pricing expected to fall roughly in the 1.03 to 1.30 lakh rupee range. As for North America — there is no US launch confirmed, which remains a significant gap. Interested buyers in the US will need to import.
Who Is This For?
The Find X9 Ultra is for anyone who wants the camera to be the star of the show. If photography and video quality are your primary criteria for a smartphone — if you have ever wished your phone could do what a proper camera can — the Find X9 Ultra makes a compelling case that the gap is now very small indeed.
This is not a phone for casual users. It is large, heavy, and expensive. If you shoot mostly selfies and social content, a cheaper phone will serve you just as well. But if you want the best smartphone camera available on the market today, the choice is simple.
Verdict
The Oppo Find X9 Ultra is the best argument yet that smartphone photography has genuinely arrived. The camera system is in a class of its own. The battery life is class-leading. The performance is flawless. And for the first time, people outside of China can actually buy one.
The price is high, the availability is still limited, and the US market remains out of reach for now. But for photographers who want the most capable camera system currently available in a smartphone, the Find X9 Ultra is not just a recommendation — it is the obvious choice.
