Apple's iPhone 18 Pro Colors Are Leaking — And Dark Cherry Is Stealing the Show

We're still a few months away from Apple's September event, but the leaks are already in overdrive. And for once, it's not the chip specs or camera upgrades getting all the attention — it's the color palette.

Leaked case images, hands-on dummy unit videos, and supply chain sources have given us our clearest look yet at how the iPhone 18 Pro is going to look. The verdict? Apple is going darker, richer, and — with one standout new shade — genuinely bold.

Dark Cherry: Apple's 2026 Hero Color

Every year, Apple picks one signature color to anchor its Pro lineup. In 2024 it was Desert Titanium. Last year it was Cosmic Orange. For 2026, multiple credible sources now agree: it's Dark Cherry.

Macworld, citing a source familiar with Apple's supply chain, describes the color as a deep, wine-like red — closer to a dark burgundy than a bright scarlet. This is not a flashy red. It's a sophisticated, almost executive shade that sits closer to a fine Bordeaux than a sports car.

Tech insider Jon Rettinger shared real-life images of the iPhone 18 Pro Max in Dark Cherry, describing the finish as vibrant without seeming too flashy — leaning into a sophisticated aesthetic that blends deep color with a rich, professional tone.

The color is expected to replace the iPhone 17 Pro's Cosmic Orange, which divided opinion. Some loved it. Many found it too loud for a $1,200 phone. Dark Cherry threads a finer needle — distinctive and eye-catching without being garish.

Leaker Sonny Dickson's dummy model images confirmed the Dark Cherry colorway, noting it carries a purplish hue in certain lighting conditions, while the Light Blue option is said to resemble the Sierra Blue introduced with the iPhone 13 Pro.

The Full 2026 Color Lineup

Based on the latest leaks, here's what Apple is expected to offer for the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max:

Light Blue
Sierra Blue vibes — calm and cool
Dark Gray
The black that wasn't on 17 Pro

Dark Cherry is the hero color. Deep wine-red with a purplish shift in certain light. Light Blue is a calm, cool shade reminiscent of Sierra Blue from the iPhone 13 Pro era. Dark Gray is widely seen as Apple's answer to the black option controversially absent from the iPhone 17 Pro lineup. Silver remains the evergreen option — present in every Pro generation.

One note of caution: Apple has historically dropped one color before launch — so there is a chance one of these four does not make the final cut.

The Design: Familiar, But Refined

If you're hoping for a radical visual overhaul, the leaks suggest you'll need to wait for iPhone 19. Leaked case images and dummy unit videos hint at a familiar design language from the iPhone 17 Pro series, with the new cases not being cross-compatible due to the 18 Pro being slightly thicker than its predecessor.

That added thickness is intentional. It's what makes room for the larger battery (rumored at 5,100–5,200 mAh) and the new variable aperture camera system. Apple is trading slim for capable.

A few notable changes are still on the way. Leaked screen protectors hint at a smaller Dynamic Island cutout, as Apple moves Face ID's flood illuminator under the display on Pro models. The camera bump's back glass is expected to match the titanium frame more closely than on current models — addressing the two-tone look that has been a point of criticism since the iPhone 17 Pro.

Leaked third-party case images point to a revised MagSafe ring design and a thicker camera module on the iPhone 18 Pro — and may signal a quieter but welcome change for case lovers. (Image: via MyDrivers / Chinese social media)

Images of third-party clear cases also suggest Apple may revert to a more familiar MagSafe ring design, moving away from the controversial opaque white panel introduced with the iPhone 17 Pro cases. Quietly, this might be the change iPhone case enthusiasts appreciate most.

A Word of Caution

It's worth flagging: MacRumors noted that some iPhone 18 Pro chassis images surfacing in early June have since been flagged as potentially AI-manipulated rather than genuine factory parts. The color leak ecosystem around iPhone season is always noisy, and not every image circulating on Chinese social media is what it claims to be.

The most reliable data points remain Macworld's supply chain source on Dark Cherry, Sonny Dickson's dummy unit images — which have a strong track record — and Jon Rettinger's hands-on video of the Pro Max in Dark Cherry.

What It All Means

Apple's 2026 color story is shaping up to be one of the more thoughtful in recent memory. Dark Cherry is a genuinely interesting choice — premium and distinctive without the divisiveness of Cosmic Orange. Dark Gray brings back the understated option that a lot of Pro buyers have been asking for. And Light Blue gives the lineup a softer entry point for buyers who want color without commitment.

The design itself plays it safe — which is probably the right call in a year where the bigger upgrades are under the hood: the 2nm A20 Pro chip, variable aperture camera, and the largest battery Apple has ever put in an iPhone.

Sometimes the best design move is knowing when not to change what's working.
