10 Features Rumored for the iPhone 18 Pro — The Complete 2026 Leak Roundup
From a 2nm chip to variable aperture cameras and satellite internet — every confirmed rumour about Apple's fall 2026 flagship

Apple hasn't said a word. They never do until September. But the leaks? The leaks have been talking all year.
Between supply chain insiders, trusted analyst reports, and hands-on dummy unit videos, we now have the clearest picture yet of what the iPhone 18 Pro will look like, what it will do, and what will make it genuinely different from what came before. Some of these upgrades are evolutionary. A few are genuinely new ground for iPhone.
Here are the 10 biggest features rumoured for the iPhone 18 Pro — and what each one actually means for you.
1. Dark Cherry — Apple's Bold New Color
Every year Apple picks one signature color to anchor the Pro lineup. Last year it was Cosmic Orange. For 2026, multiple credible sources including Macworld's supply chain contact confirm it's Dark Cherry — a deep, wine-like red that's sophisticated where Cosmic Orange was polarising.
The full expected color lineup: Dark Cherry, Light Blue, Dark Gray, and Silver. The existing Cosmic Orange and Deep Blue from the iPhone 17 Pro are expected to be discontinued. Dark Gray is also being read as Apple's olive branch to buyers who felt burned when black disappeared from the Pro lineup.
One caveat: Apple has historically dropped one color before launch. So don't get too attached until September.

2. Smaller Dynamic Island
The Dynamic Island has been a fixture of iPhone Pro since 2022 — a software-forward way of making the Face ID cutout feel useful rather than intrusive. The iPhone 18 Pro is expected to shrink it significantly.
Apple is reportedly moving Face ID's flood illuminator under the display, meaning less hardware needs to live in the pill-shaped notch. Some early leaks suggested the cutout could shrink by up to 35%. More recent reporting suggests the change is real but more modest — still, any reduction makes the display feel more immersive.
Whether the Dynamic Island software experience stays, shrinks, or disappears entirely with it is still an open question.

3. LTPO+ Displays
The iPhone 18 Pro keeps the same display sizes as the 17 Pro — 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch — but upgrades the underlying panel tech to LTPO+. This evolved version of the existing Low Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide technology is better at scaling refresh rate dynamically: your screen works harder when you need it and backs off when you don't.
The direct benefit is longer battery life without sacrificing 120Hz smoothness. Both Pro models are expected to share this upgrade.
4. Variable Aperture Camera — A First for iPhone
This is the headline camera feature — and it's genuinely new ground for Apple. The main 48-megapixel Fusion camera on both iPhone 18 Pro models is rumoured to have a variable aperture, making it the first iPhone ever to ship with a mechanically adjustable lens.
Right now, your iPhone's camera has a fixed aperture (f/1.78 on recent Pros). Variable aperture lets the lens physically open and close to control how much light enters the sensor — similar to how your eye adjusts from bright sunlight to a dim room. Korea's ETNews reported in April 2026 that supply chain production had already begun. The camera module on dummy units is noticeably thicker and the lenses larger — both consistent with the variable aperture implementation.

5. A20 Pro Chip — Apple's 2nm Leap
At the heart of the iPhone 18 Pro is Apple's next-generation A20 Pro chip, manufactured on TSMC's cutting-edge 2nm process. The A19 Pro inside the iPhone 17 Pro is 3nm. Shrinking transistors means more performance in less space, with less heat and less battery drain.
“The A20 Pro's WMCM packaging integrates RAM directly onto the chip wafer itself — faster memory bandwidth, better AI processing, improved thermal management, and a smaller footprint inside the phone.”
The expected performance gain is 10–15% over the current generation. Apple is switching to WMCM (Wafer-Level Multi-Chip Module) packaging, which integrates RAM directly onto the chip wafer. All Pro models are expected to ship with 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM.
6. C2 Modem — Apple's Third-Generation In-House Chip
Apple's push to ditch Qualcomm is accelerating. The C1 modem debuted in the iPhone 16e, followed by the C1X in the iPhone Air. The iPhone 18 Pro is expected to introduce the C2 — Apple's third-generation in-house cellular chip.
What changes: faster 5G performance, lower power consumption, and — crucially — the ability to support 5G internet via satellite. That's a step beyond the emergency satellite connectivity iPhones already offer.
7. 5G via Satellite
The iPhone 18 Pro is expected to be the first iPhone capable of full 5G satellite internet connectivity — not just emergency SOS or Messages, but actual web access via satellite.
The Information reported in October 2025 that Apple was preparing to support 5G NR-NTN (Non-Terrestrial Networks), with Amazon as the satellite connectivity partner. If it works as described, it's a meaningful shift for travellers, remote workers, and anyone who has ever been stuck in a dead zone.

8. N2 Wi-Fi Chip — Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6
The iPhone 17 models shipped with Apple's N1 chip handling Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread connectivity. The iPhone 18 Pro is expected to upgrade to the N2 — the next iteration of Apple's in-house wireless chip. Expect faster Wi-Fi throughput, improved Bluetooth range and efficiency, and better Thread support for the smart home ecosystem.
9. Bigger Battery — Potentially the Largest Ever in an iPhone
The iPhone 18 Pro Max is rumoured to ship with a battery in the 5,100–5,200 mAh range — up from around 4,800–5,000 mAh in the current generation. Multiple reports point to up to 40 hours of video playback on the Pro Max, which would comfortably clear the two-day mark for typical users.
The slightly thicker body exists specifically to accommodate the larger battery and variable aperture camera system. Combined with the efficiency gains from the 2nm A20 Pro chip and LTPO+ display, the 18 Pro could be a meaningful step forward on battery life.
10. 24MP Front Camera Upgrade
Often overlooked: the iPhone 18 Pro is rumoured to upgrade the selfie camera to 24MP, up from the current 12MP front sensor on iPhone Pro models. Higher resolution means sharper selfies, better FaceTime calls, and improved front-facing video for creators.
The Bigger Picture
Step back and look at all 10 together, and what you're seeing is Apple's most coherent iPhone Pro upgrade cycle in several years. It's not one big feature — it's a stack of meaningful improvements that compound on each other.
The 2nm A20 Pro makes everything faster. The LTPO+ display and larger battery make it last longer. The variable aperture camera is genuinely new ground. The C2 modem with satellite internet is a capability no iPhone has ever had. And a smaller Dynamic Island plus Dark Cherry make the whole package feel fresh without a redesign.
The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are expected to be announced at Apple's fall event in September 2026. The standard iPhone 18 won't arrive until spring 2027 — putting the spotlight firmly on the Pro lineup for the rest of the year.
